Engaged Time
Average Engaged Time represents the average time live users spend actively engaging with a page.
How We Track Engaged Time
We only count time as "engaged" when the user is actively interacting with the page. A page is considered active if the user has taken an action—such as scrolling, clicking a button, or following a link—within the last 60 seconds. If no action is detected within 60 seconds, engaged time is paused until activity resumes.
How Different User Actions Affect Engaged Time
Switching Tabs → If a user navigates to another tab or program while keeping your site open (that is, your website is still open on another tab but is not active), engaged time is paused until they return to the page.
Closing the Page → Engaged time stops when the user exits the page.
Reopening a Closed Page → If the user returns to the page later, a new session starts, and engaged time resets.
Refreshing the Page → A refresh restarts the engaged time count.
Why Time Spent Matters
Engaged time is a strong indicator of content quality and user interest:
High engaged time suggests users find the content valuable and engaging.
Low engaged time may indicate a need for more engaging elements, improved readability, or a better user experience.
