Recirculation Rate
Recirculation Rate measures how many users continue exploring your website after reading an article. It helps you understand how effectively your content encourages users to stay on your site and engage with more pages.
How We Calculate Recirculation
Real-Time Recirculation % for an Article = (Number of live users who clicked a link and moved to another page) / (Total live users currently on the article) × 100
For Example: Let's say 5 users land on Article A. Out of these users:
2 users click a link and navigate to Article B
1 user clicks a link and navigates to Article C
The remaining users drop off
Then the Recirculation Rate for Article A = (2+1) / 5 = 60%
Real-Time Recirculation % for the website = (Number of live users who clicked a link and moved to another page on your site) / (Total live users on the website) × 100
Note: If a user simply refreshes the page, it is not counted under recirculation.
Why Recirculation Matters
Unlike Bounce Rate, which measures users leaving without interaction (a negative metric), Recirculation Rate highlights engagement—showing how well an article encourages users to keep reading.
A high Recirculation Rate means your internal linking, recommendations, and content strategy are working well!
How Recirculation Helps Optimize Content Strategy
Recirculation data provides valuable insights to improve content strategy:
Low Recirculation + Low Engaged Time + High Traffic? → You may be attracting the wrong audience. Reevaluate targeting and content relevance.
Low Recirculation + High Engaged Time + High Traffic? → Add more relevant internal links to guide users to additional content.
High Recirculation + High Engagement + Low Traffic? → This article has strong potential—consider promoting it to increase page views.
SEO Benefits → A higher Recirculation Rate signals to search engines that users find value in your content, which can help improve rankings.
Content Strategy Insights → Identify which articles keep users engaged and which need better internal linking or stronger CTAs.
How to Improve Recirculation
Boosting recirculation increases page views and overall user engagement. Here’s how to improve it:
Place Internal Links Strategically → Add relevant links within the content to guide users to more articles.
Use Related Content Widgets → Recommend similar articles or pages to encourage deeper exploration.
Optimize Site Performance → Ensure fast load times and mobile responsiveness to keep users engaged.
Enhance Navigation & CTAs → Make it easy for users to find more relevant content through better calls-to-action (CTAs) and link placements.
